ITHUBA  Launches Empowerment Programme to Boost Boda Boda Riders’ Entrepreneurship
The initiative combines financial inclusion, digital skills, and National Lottery sales to create sustainable income opportunities for Ugandan boda boda riders.

ITHUBA Uganda, the operator of the Uganda National Lottery, has launched a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Empowerment Programme aimed at uplifting Uganda’s boda boda riders by equipping them with digital skills, entrepreneurship training, and opportunities to earn commission-based income as National Lottery ticket sellers.

Developed in partnership with the Boda Boda Association of Uganda, the programme seeks to provide riders with tools and opportunities to turn side hustles into sustainable businesses.

Participants will receive training, be registered as lottery agents, and earn while continuing their daily work.

“At ITHUBA, we believe true empowerment is not about giving handouts — it’s about creating opportunity,” said Bob Kabenaro, Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda.

“This programme gives riders the skills, tools, and support to build sustainable income. It is about transforming potential into progress, and dignity into prosperity.”

Eric Mabuza Jnr., General Manager of ITHUBA Uganda, added that the initiative is designed to build entrepreneurs, not just participants.

“The National Lottery is more than entertainment — it’s a vehicle for impact. We’re turning everyday Ugandans into partners in progress,” he said.

Central to the initiative is ITHUBA’s Lottery Xpress platform, which allows anyone with a smartphone to become a digital lottery agent.

“It’s simple, fast, and accessible — allowing micro-entrepreneurs to earn income while connecting more people to the National Lottery network,” said Lottery Specialist Gys Potgieter.

The company also introduced TAANO TAANO, a rapid-draw lottery game with draws every five minutes and tickets starting at Shs100.

The game is designed to be fun, fair, and accessible, while also expanding the reach of the National Lottery and creating opportunities for local communities.

The CSI Empowerment Programme is part of ITHUBA Uganda’s broader mission to drive social impact through innovation, empower Ugandans at the grassroots, promote entrepreneurship, and contribute to national development.

ITHUBA Uganda operates under the regulation of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board and was granted a 10-year license to run the Uganda National Lottery by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.
